Identified Henry 1st model rifle. Made in 1863. Inscribed on the left hand side in the frame “Julius Emerick”. Julius Emerick was a private in the 64th Illinois Infantry. He was a member of “Yate’s Sharp Shooters”. This unit was outfitted with Henry rifles the soldiers had to pay for. There has been one other Henry rifle that has turned up from this unit and it was also inscribed to the owner. This unit was involved in over two dozen skirmishes. There is a reunion ribbon included in the binder of research that details everywhere they saw action. The binder of research is very thorough. It contains unit history, Private Emerick’s muster rolls and correspondence with Private Emerick’s family, pictures of his grave, and much more detailed information about Private Emerick. The gun is untouched. The barrel has a brown patina with light scattered pitting in places. The barrel address and serial number are easily readable. The brass has a beautiful even dark patina with “JULIUS EMERICK” engraved on the left hand side. All numbers match. Stock is very good and still has the “Henry Bump”. This is a very good historic piece that has a lot of research with it. Great Civil War identified Henry rifle!
