German Wheelock Blunderbuss carbine made for military use. Judging from the lack of decoration and from the type of wood used to make the stock and the overall appearance when compared to more common German Wheelock military pistols. This is a very rare Blunderbuss with the barrel being 22” in length and overall length 35”. Diameter at the muzzle is 2⅞”. The stock is fitted for a saddle bar for cavalry use. The barrel has two makers or city marks. The overall condition is very good plus with only minor handling marks on the stock. A similar example of this rare gun is pictured in Robert Brooker’s excellent book, Landeszeughaus Graz, Austria. The Wheelock in the book is described as, “Unique Tromblon. Dated approximately 1600-1615”. This Wheelock has the brass collection tag from the F.W. Roebling III Collection, Trenton, N.J. He was a descendant of John Robeling who designed and built the Brooklyn Bridge. This is a real rarity in a Wheelock and has condition and collection history.
