Ottoman Knee Gun (AL3348)

Ottoman "Knee" Gun. (Fired from horseback and resting the gun on ones knee while firing). This is a design variation we have not seen before as the buttstock area is smaller than usually seen on knee guns. The barrel is Ottoman and has a makers sink. The sheet silver embellishments are nicely engraved. Barrel is 15" and overall length is 25 1/2". Lock mechanism works fine. Frizzen spring is strong. We feel many collectors overlook Middle Eastern guns as poorly made and in many cases this is true. However, there are many examples of excellent workmanship and taken in the context of the level of gun making sophistication, the many variances of the different countries and states makes the collecting of Middle Eastern guns and edged weapons absolutely fascinating. There are several good books on the subject.
