Remington Keene U.S. Indian Police Rifle (AL4275)

Remington Keene U.S. Indian Police Rifle. Nice sharp gun with approximately 50% of the original blue finish. This gun is one of the 500 or so that were sold to the Department of the Interior and issued to the Indian Police. Gun is in .45-70 caliber and has an excellent bore. This gun has both a Henry Nettleton inspected barrel and receiver. Left hand side of the receiver is marked,”U.S.I.D. 221” (United States Interior Department gun # 221). The most interesting about this gun is an old metal tag that reads, “U.S. DEPT. OF INDIAN AFFAIRS / APPROVED SALE / No 211 / Rifle & Ammo / INDIAN POLICE 1888” This tag is the only one we have ever seen but appear perfectly authentic. Very neat Indian Police Remington Keene.
