Gilbert Smith's Patent Sporting (AL3357)

Gilbert Smith's Patent Sporting rifle. Manufactured by Poultney & Trimble. Gun is serial #114. Bore is poor. Action works perfectly. Stock is checkered and has fancy wood and a cheek piece. Patent dated 1857. Barrel has sharp edges and has a very even smooth patina. Receiver has a mottled blue-gray patina. This is the only example of this rare gun we have owned and we have seen only one other which was engraved.
