Q. & L. Morton Petersburg Virginia 16 Gauge (AS3)

Q. & L. Morton Petersburg Virginia 16 Gauge shotgun. Scarce Southern marked side-by-side double. Q. & L. are listed in the Mercantile Directory on Sycamore in Peterburg in 1851-1852. Top of barrel rib is marked in script “Petersburg, VA”. The engraved lock has dogs on point with grouse and other game birds surrounding by high quality scroll and floral engraving. Other metal parts are engraved ensuite. There is a percussion cap trap on the underside of the butt stock. Bore is 16 Gauge barrel length is 29½” and overall length is 45”. Action works perfectly. This is a Birmingham proofed English shotgun made for the American market. This was common practice with American dueling pistols in the Philadelphia area and other East coast cities where the barrels bear the dealers name but not the English markers name but do bear the English proofs. The stock has an old refinish. This is a Southern shotgun sold by a known dealer in Petersburg, VA.
