Very unusual .69 caliber smooth-bore musket. This musket was assembled post-Civil War from a mixture of parts, probably by a major dealer such as Schuyler, Hartley & Graham. The .69 caliber smooth-bore barrel with oval “ELG” proof is from Belgium. The lock is an 1862 Springfield that has been altered to flint. This required the addition of a flint cock, pan, frizzen and frizzen spring…a lot of work. The bands and trigger guard are a mix of model 1816,1855, and 1861. The butt plate is unknown with moderate roughness. Stock is a U.S. musket stock with sharp edges and two strong cartouches. The metal is a smooth pleasing patina. Wood is fine with no crack or chips. The swivels and ramrod are present. The lock markings are light due to the flint alteration. The action functions correctly. It appears to be unfired as the touchhole has no wear or erosion. Here’s the chance to acquire an unusual, possibly unique, post-Civil War musket professionally made up from whatever parts were at hand. Don’t miss this one!
