There are numerous examples of Confederate conversions of this type using the flintlock hammer jaws to hold a tubular projection which strikes the cap on the nipple. There are also gunsmith conversions of the period so it is not easy to say if one is a Confederate conversion or an unknown gunsmith conversion. At the very least, this would be a source of lengthy conversations.
