French Flintlock Fowler Owned by Napoleon II (AL3923)

French Flintlock Fowler Owned by Napoleon II. Very fine Historic piece made by J.B. Baucheron of Paris and made for Emperor Napoleon II. This gun has 31.5” Damascus barrels. The top rib has the maker’s mark “Baucheron Paris” in the middle and large crown over an N in Gold towards the rear all inlayed in gold. The locks are nicely game scene with scroll engraved “Baucheron” again inlayed in gold. Locks have roller frizzens. Trigger guard is nicely engraved with decadent finial. Checkering shows some wear. Right hand of stock has silver inlay with another crown over N and decorative silver intersecting ribbons above the crown over N. Very nice gun. This gun came from the Fisher family of Columbus, OH. An undated letter from Hammer Galleries of New York states that this gun was originally in the H.S. Barton collection of Owensboro, Kentucky and apparently was a gun collector. This was his prized possession. The letter also identifies this shotgun as belonging to Napoleon I, however this is mistaken since Napoleon I died in 1821 and Baucheron was only in business from 1823-1826. Very fine gun belonging to Emperor Napoleon II!
