Large All Metal British .48 Caliber Percussion Pistol. 5” barrel, 11” overall length. Barrel marked "Van Wart Son & Co. London”. This was either the retailer or the maker. Some of these guns made their way to the American market and some were purchased by the firm Hyde and Goodrich. Barrel is mostly turned to a patina and has gold and silver bands. Engraving on metal is nicely done. There is a trap in the butt for percussion caps. Gun has a captive ramrod. Very nice pistol, a style you do not typically see.
